Director’s Message

Our founder, Mr S Akambaram, also known as Dicky when he was younger, began his story to success as a curious young boy whose family did not have the financial means to support his tertiary education. As such, he could not attend any well-known business school and had to enter the workforce soon after graduation. Dicky helped with miscellaneous tasks onboard ships, such as carrying heavy equipment and running simple errands. Making the best out of his situation, Dicky picked up any and every skill that he was exposed to.

Out of all the skills he was taught, Mr Akambaram took great interest in the art of scaffolding and being a focused man, he mastered the craft quickly. He had a conviction—scaffolding would be his path towards the zenith of the business world.

With a handful of labourers and only himself to manage the business, Mr Akambaram laid the first brick in his career—Any Mari Enterprise in 1980. As Mr Akambaram and his hardworking team of men tackled project after project safely and efficiently, word spread and Any Mari Enterprise gained renown in the Singaporean shipyards.

While the company saw newfound success, Mr Akambaram was never one to rest on his laurels. He knew he was destined for more. Mr Akambaram expanded the Any Mari name into four more entities—Any Mari Scaffolding, Any Mari Engineering and Any Mari Spartanz. They were then collectively named the AMGC, or Any Mari Group of Companies. AMGC and Mr Akambaram would then go on to become a resident contractor in all four major shipyards in Singapore, a feat only achievable by some.

Always being the visionary, Mr Akambaram had his sights set further on the horizon. He set sail further and opened up another company, Ash Marine, that focuses on blasting, painting and thermal spray works.

As the company grew, Mr Akambaram realised the utmost importance of using high-quality materials. High-quality marine scaffolding planks can reduce dock time and reinforce workplace safety, optimising work for contractors and time for shipowners.

Instead of relying on outsourced materials, Mr Akambaram wanted complete quality control. He started his own production plant to manufacture marine scaffolding planks that assure reliability not only for AMGC, but for many other companies and ships around the world.
